The University of Texas Aquatics Complex

The new Gregory Gym Aquatics Complex included extensive landscaping, limestone retaining walls, and a concrete deck with a repeating pattern of colors and finishes surrounding an outdoor lap pool, leisure pool, special event pool, water fall bridge, hydrotherapy spa, fountain, and cedar trellises with wireless high speed internet access. The project also included a reception garden, equipment storage, control facilities, concessions building, restroom facilities, partial demolition and renovation of the Varsity building, and a complete interior renovation of the Gregory Gymnasium Natatorium including both pools and all new mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems. The total project area was (new) 14,000 sf, (renovated) 12,500 sf and water/deck area of 16,000 sf. Emerson served as prime contractor and self performed concrete work, steel and plank erection and rough carpentry. This project was completed with zero lost time accidents including all subcontractors.

This project also received two awards from the Associated General Contractors of America, Austin Chapter: 2005 Outstanding Construction Award for Category B ($10 – $30 Million) and Category SC (Specialty Construction).
